businessman drawing color business strategy on wall

Hey there! Thanks for checking out the “about” page of the SPQ podcast.

The aim of the SPQ show is simple—to answer any question you have on how to successfully run a book-based business.

All you have to do is call or write me with a question and I’ll dedicate a whole episode to providing a detailed response.

Even as a listener, you will get value from the SPQ podcast. With this show you will learn how to:

  • Build a lasting author platform
  • Identify quality book niches and topics
  • Create multiple books that solve the “pain points” of various readers
  • Market your content through variety of sales channels
  • Maximize the KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) sales tools that Amazon provides
  • Scale your book business into a full-time income

These topics barely scratch the surface of what’s possible with self-publishing. So if you want to get a “quick start” information, then let me recommend the free Kindle Publishing Checklist which is a 46-step plan to go from idea to published eBook.

About Steve (the authorpreneur)

main-photo-croppedHey there! My name is Steve Scott—the voice behind the podcast.

It has been a long journey towards becoming a self-published author, so let me give you the Cliff’s Notes version…

I started dabbling with Internet businesses back in 2002, but didn’t fully commit myself until 2004. Even then—it wasn’t able to rely entirely on my online income until 2006.

From 2006 to 2012, I built a variety of Internet businesses—i.e. blogging, affiliate marketing and information products. In 2012, I was looking for a way to drive traffic to my blog (SteveScottSite.com) and I heard great things about the Kindle publishing platform. So I decided to take a few old blog posts, put them into a book and publish on Amazon.

This book didn’t do well for a few months, until I released the second and used the KDP Select to promote the first title by giving it away for five days. After the promo ended, my books were averaging $10 to $15 a day. Not a lot of money, but it lead to the biggest ah-ha moment of my life where I wondered:

“Instead of spending my time writing blog posts, what if I focused on small topics and put them into book format that were reasonably priced at $2.99?”

And as they say, the rest is history.

Since that moment, I’ve devoted myself full-time to self-publishing (check out my income page if you want to see the specifics.) The last two years has been an amazing experience. Some strategies have been wildly successful, while others were complete failures. And now I’ve started this podcast to share what I’ve learned along the way.

About Steve (the person)

I was born and raised in the Jersey Shore area of New Jersey (seriously, don’t get me started on that T.V. show.) I was in the Air Force for a few years, stationed in Mississippi. Then spent a few more in South Carolina until moving back to good ole’ New Jersey.

My day-to-day life is fairly routine. I work, exercise and enjoy various hobbies. But mostly, I like to spend time with my fiancée, family and friends.

That said, I do make time for two major passions.

The first is traveling. In the last few years, I’ve gone on a number of trips: 8 months and 15 countries around Europe (2010), Belize (2011), Germany/Austria/Switzerland (2011), Panama (2012), a seven-week cross-country trip through the United States (2012), Greece (2013), Costa Rica (2014), Italy (2014). My latest plan is to hike Mount Kilimanjaro (February 2015.)

My next passion is running marathons. (Yes, some people actually enjoy these events.) One of my “buck lists” items is to complete a marathon in each of the 50 states. Right now, it’s 15 down, 35 to go.

About Leigh Morgan

leigh-photoLeigh is the other half of the team behind SPQ.  She carefully goes through my disorganized bullet points and podcast recordings to create the show notes for each episode.  Without Leigh, I don’t think the podcast would be possible.

Here’s a little bit about Leigh…

Since 2004, Leigh Morgan has been writing articles, blog posts, e-books, and reports for clients in the business, medical, and legal niches.

She has also proofread or edited more than 35 books by New York Times, USA Today and Amazon bestselling authors.

In her free time, Leigh plays the clarinet, experiments with new recipes and loves to read mysteries and thrillers.
